The retreat will allow you to get connected with your body and mind, get some much-needed headspace and new experiences onboard a sailing yacht. Enjoy a week full of energetic and restorative yoga sequences, dig deeper into modern mindfulness and find rest and clarity in daily meditations on and off the boat. We want to make the week tailored to you since we are an intimate group of people. We will let the winds & mood adjust every practice, mediation and we'll flow through the days.

The Sail'n'Mind Cruise in Croatia was fantastic!
Nicola, Josefine, and Raffael were available for us around the clock, briefed us in advance (not all of us had been on a sailing boat for a week :)), arranged a colorful program (yoga, meditation, mindfulness exercises, excursions etc.), introduced us to the world of sailing, cooked (yummy!) and entertained us. There is no better crew to have so much fun with.
Every day there were new inspirations and revealing conversations with each other. It was the perfect combination of powering up and getting to rest. It was also nice to see how people who didn't know each other for the most part before, harmonized wonderfully on the boat for a whole week and had a lot of fun.
I could talk about so many experiences, but I don't want to take the excitement off anyone ;) Whoever will be there next year - it will definitely be as fantastic as this year. I am looking forward to Sail'n'Mind 2019 :)
Über meinen eigenen Schatten zu springen und bei Sail’n’Mind mitzufahren, war aber die beste Entscheidung, die ich treffen konnte. Die Absprache über Facebook bzgl. An- und Abreise von und nach Wien als Fahrgemeinschaft, aus sich zuvor noch nicht kennenden TeilnehmerInnen, war relativ unkompliziert und hat gut funktioniert. :-) Die Reise bedient meiner Meinung nach vier Aspekte: einen meditativen, einen sportlichen, einen abenteuerlichen sowie einen sozialen. Zuvorderst und vielleicht am prominentesten steht das Meditative. Eine Woche fernab des normalen Alltags, aller Sorgen, Ablenkungen und Verpflichtungen mit einer Einführung bzw. Anleitung zu verschiedenen Formen der Meditation, ist die perfekte Voraussetzung für die Seele, sich zu erholen. Zugleich ist es auch sportlich. Nicola und Josefine sind dabei ein toller Mix aus bedacht und motivierend, um sich selbst zu überwinden und Neues auszuprobieren. Täglich wird Yoga praktiziert, das Meer bietet die Möglichkeit sich abzukühlen und auszutoben, aber auch andere Betätigungen werden teils spontan und abhängig vom Interesse der Gruppe angeboten. Das Abenteuerliche betrifft eher jene, die noch keine großen Segler- und SeefahrerInnen sind. Aber vor der malerischen Kulisse des türkisblauen kroatischen Meers und der schroffen kroatischen Berglandschaft zu kreuzen, ist ausgesprochen romantisch. Außerdem gibt es die Möglichkeit, an Deck, direkt unter dem Firmament zu schlafen. Für Interessierte bietet sich obendrein noch die Chance auf eine Einführung ins theoretische und praktische Segeln oder Knotenbinden. Und auch ein paar der weniger Interessierten wird der Skipper mit seiner liebenswerten Art dafür begeistern ;-). Zuletzt, aber für mich mitunter ausschlaggebend für den Spaß und Erfolg unserer Reise war das Soziale – die anderen Menschen auf dem Boot. Eine gewisse Offenheit ist natürlich von Vorteil, aber am Ende der Woche waren wir alle, die wir uns davor nicht kannten und eine sehr heterogene Gruppe darstellten, ein eingeschworenes Team mit viel Respekt und Wertschätzung füreinander.
GOOD TO KNOW
◦ Living onboard a sailing yacht is really hard to explain, but it feels kind of like camping on water. Be prepared for accordingly small space. Especially for luggage. The bathrooms are also just as big as they need to be, as well as the little kitchen with a gas stove and fridge. There are only double rooms available (double and bunk beds). If you are traveling alone, be prepared to share a cabin with someone you just met. We'll be spending more time on deck anyways where the wide ocean will be our garden. As we are spending most of our time outdoors the route and all activities are dependent on the weather conditions. The daily program might need to be changed accordingly.
◦ Check-in is on Saturday at 7 p.m.; Check out is on Saturday at 7 a.m.
◦ The retreat will run with 6 people signed up. The group is limited to 8 on one boat. There will be a maximum of 2 boats.
Which Yoga style will be practiced?
Nicola has a training in Ashtanga Vinyasa Flow and likes to practice Ashtanga, Bikram and Vinyasa Flow. She is a physiotherapist which influences her teaching and cueing a lot as she approaches body mechanics more detailed.
When and where will the classes take place?
There will be two sessions daily. One Yoga class, and one other class. Depending on the facilities and the surrounding the other sessions are coaching, meditation or Yin Yoga sessions. Usually, we will practice on board of the yacht, but we'll also explore some beautiful Yoga spots on land. The yoga sessions will take place in the morning or evening, as it is too hot during the day. You are also free to practice Yoga on board yourself. If we are anchored in a bay you can try Aerial Yoga over the water.
I don't feel comfortable sharing a cabin. Can I book a cabin for my own?
If you don't feel comfortable sharing a cabin, we would highly recommend bringing a friend with whom you can share the cabin. If this is not an option, we want to state that we've never had problems with sharing the cabins before. We will meet for dinner on the first evening so you can get to know each other before sharing a cabin. Of course, we also try to meet all your wishes and needs. Therefore no one will have to share the cabin with a person (of the opposite sex) if this is not desired. Normally, at the end of the week nobody sleeps in the cabin anymore, but on deck under the stars anyways. ;-)

Can I book a bunk bed in advance?
We will meet for dinner on the first evening so you can get to know each other before sharing a cabin. We'll try to make everyone happy and we'll decide as a group who's gonna be in a cabin with whom. Normally, if there is an uneven number of male/female we tend to reserve the bunk beds for "mixed" cabins. Usually there are 1-2 bunk bed cabins out of 4.
If you are not feeling comfortable with sharing a bed with a stranger, and can't bring a friend to enjoy the Retreat, it's a wonderful oppertunity to make new friends. In reality most of the participants don't know anyone before the trip and we've never had problems with sharing the cabins before so it is totally fine if you are travelling on your own. When the weather is nice, at the end of the week nobody sleeps in the cabins anymore, but on deck underneath the stars. ;-)
What will the schedule look like?
The days are quite different, depending on weather and location, but also depending on group dynamics and are not 100% fixed, as you may know from "on land"-Retreats. The timing is always a bit different, depending on if we stayed in a bay or in one of the nice little towns, and also depends on wind and weather. There are at least two sessions a day. One yoga and one meditation/coaching/yin yoga session.
An example for a day in the bay would be 08:00 am yoga, 9:30 am breakfast, swimming time, 12:00 am anchor lifting, lunch snack and meditation during the crossing, swimming stop at the open sea 06:00 pm mooring in the next town, 07:00 pm dinner, 09:00 pm sunset walking meditation.
Do I need to attend all of the classes?
Of course not! You can choose what ever and how much suits you best. We recommend having a general interest in mindfulness and being open minded to learn new things.
I don't have a practice in meditation/mindfulness. Can I still come?
YES! All you need is an open mind and interest in that subject. Everything else will flow naturally as you will be guided well throughout the whole week.
What are coaching sessions?
In addition to her yoga classes, Josefine has made it her mission to bring "Mindfulness" to people. Therefore she offers meditation and reflection units in which for example inner beliefs are worked on. With a personal booklet you will be guided through small exercises on mindfulness and other similar topics. With the booklet you will be able to take home your experiences and continue working with them if you would like to.
How do I get to the marina (docking station of the yacht)?
The Marina is not directly in Split nor directly at the airport. You will need additional transport (Taxi/Bus/Car). We will send out a detailed arrival information some weeks before the retreat.
What is the nearest airport?
The closest Airport is Split (SPU).
To get to the marina you will need additional transport.
There are also plenty of local bus lines that go through and around split as well as a railway station directly in the town of Split.
What and how do we eat/cook food onboard?
We'll be having breakfast (granola, fruit, bread, cheese, jam, peanut butter, yogurt) and lunch (mostly salads/light food) onboard every day. On nights spent in a bay, we'll also prepare dinner. The ingredients will be on board and we'll prepare delicious vegetarian meals together.
How big is the yacht?
Yacht (50ft)- There is no guarantee that the yacht will look the same as the year before! The group is limited to 8 on one boat. There will be a maximum of 2 boats.
